Did you know that 95% of our brain activity goes beyond our conscious awareness? Basically, most of our decisions, actions, emotions, and behavior depend on our subconscious and only 5% of the time we are actually present and aware of what we are thinking about, what we are doing and what is going on.
Imagine an iceberg, when you can see a tiny tip and the most significant part is hidden below the surface. That how our brain works and how we go through everyday life.
When I just started getting interested in "the power of subconscious" or how to become more conscious I, as probably, any of us would do "Googled it." I got thousands of links on books and videos, different researches on the topic and so my journey on self-education began. I'd say halfway through I felt really overwhelmed, there was too much information, but at the same time not enough.
I filtered as much as I could and kept a few things that made the most sense to me.
BE PRESENT.
That was one thing that all the books I've read and all the videos I've watched had in common. Be present. I read it, but I didn't get it at first.
What does it even mean? I am present. I thought I was.
The truth is, at least how I see it now: there are things that we do every day, we know how to do them, we've done them thousands of times, let's say making a cup of tea, driving a car on the route you know by heart, cleaning apartment, brushing your teeth, smiling to the camera, etc. All those things we are doing without our brain participating in them. It sounds weird, but the idea is that if it's not something new for you and you've done it before, you are doing it on "autopilot." The brain is resting. There are 2 ways to make a lazy mind do something.
1. Learn a new skill. Any skill would work. You've never tried skiing then do it. You can't speak Chinese, there is no better time than now to start learning. Jewelry making, pottery classes, sailing school, nutrition course, literally anything new for you would work. As long as we learn something new, the brain keeps active.
2. Be present. Let's say you are having a cup of tea. Ask yourself at this very moment: "how does it taste, is it good, sweet, fruity, strong?" "How does it feel, is it a heavy cup, small cup, big, hot, burning in your palms..." "How does it smell, sweet, herbal, exotic, hard to tell..." "How does it look, black, green, red, white, translucent..."
Same questions you can ask about yourself at any moment of your day. "Where am I, how do I feel emotionally and physically, what do I smell, what do I taste, what do I hear, what do I see." This simple exercise will awake your brain and make you more present.

ENTER ALPHA STATE OF MIND.
Alpha state of mind is when you are so relaxed that you feel like you almost asleep, but actually, you are awake. Your brain begins to emit alpha waves instead of beta, which is what we all emit when we're fully awake.
Let's say you took a subway or train to get back home after a long day at work, it's not very busy, not too loud, so you can just relax and think about something. And at some point, you are so relaxed that you don't even notice how you miss your stop, and it happened not because you fall asleep, it happened because your mind was in Alpha state.
It's a very resourceful state if you know how to use it. It's time when great ideas are coming in your head when you can think of a solution for a problem you had for a while when you can declutter your mind and hear clearly your inner voice.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN TYPE OF MEDITATION.
What do you think of when I say "meditation?" Do you imagine yourself sitting in a full lotus or half lotus pose in a dimmed room, inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth? Well, to be completely honest, it's what I think about meditation. But the truth is, you can choose your own type. For you, it might be a long walk in the park or a fast run on the beach, a cup of coffee in your favorite cafe all by yourself, cell phone free of course, a ride on your scooter or classical music in your headphones.
Meditation doesn't have to be uncomfortable in your knees or back, you can meditate on your sofa, as long as you actually take time to do it, you are all good.
MINDFUL BREATHING
I've just recently found out about abdominal breathing, and it's incredible. It truly helps with anxiety, stress, worries, fears. Whatever you have on your mind that makes you unhappy or uncomfortable you can breathe it out.
NO MAN BECOMES RICH UNLESS HE ENRICHES OTHERS.
This expression is self-explanatory, give, share, be grateful, spread positivity and love, it's limitless, give to receive.
